Delta Shores Saw Residential Growth, a Retail Closure, and Community Events in 2025

SACRAMENTO — JANUARY 2026

Delta Shores, the 800-acre master-planned community in south Sacramento, marked 2025 with continued residential expansion, a series of popular community events, one major retail closure and a single notable violent incident.

The year's biggest developments centered on housing. In February, partners Russell Square and Jackson Square Properties broke ground on a 576-unit multifamily rental project in two phases, including 21 buildings, clubhouses, a pool, fitness center and dog park. The community, powered in part by off-site solar, is expected to wrap construction in late 2026.

Single-family building progressed steadily, with active sales from KB Home (Riva at Delta Shores), Meritage Homes and Signature Homes. In November, The New Home Company released plans for 209 detached homes on Blocks 10-12, spanning more than 25 acres. Late in December, Tricon Residential acquired initial townhomes from Signature Homes to launch a 101-unit build-to-rent neighborhood.

Retail took a hit when At Home closed its Delta Shores store — the chain's only Sacramento-area location — as part of a national bankruptcy filing. The closure occurred amid company-wide restructuring.

The shopping center countered with family-friendly programming. Events included Winter Wonderland (Jan. 11), Community Festival (June 21), Fall Festival (Nov. 8) and Candy Cane Lane (Dec. 6), all free and drawing local crowds for activities, music and seasonal fun.

On April 5, police responded to a stabbing at the shopping plaza that injured an adult and a juvenile; both victims were reported in stable condition. No other major public safety incidents were widely reported in the community during the year.
